A new cultural area has emerged on ‘Thief Island’, the peninsula outside Oslo. What was once the island to which the criminals of Norway were sent to pay their debts to society (Tjuvholmen), is now a hyped urban area and cultural center. Amongst all of the restaurants, galleries and of course the beautiful new museum designed by Renzo Piano, only one thing has been missing- a hotel. In January 2013 “The Thief” will open its doors, a hotel built as a sustainable structure and almost completely surrounded by water.
For this post the pictures will talk for themselves..the amazing property is called: Areias do Seixo located only 35 min from Lisbon’s airport in Povoa de Penafirme. It has only a few rooms but each room has its own unique touch. Non of the rooms has a TV or even an air conditioning. They focus on easy living. The surroundings are breathtaking.
They have a restaurant with no menu, they only offer you the daily specials and you can choose from that. They have their own vegetables and fruits in their garden so the food is always ecological.
DestinationSpotting love the environment and really appreciate all efforts made to focus on sustainability, and when you mix that with a boutique hotel we go lyrical!
In the heart of Shanghai you find URBN Hotel that offers you a unique designed and environmentally friendly rooms. The building used to be an old factory warehouse that has been renovated with recycled and locally sourced materials. All technology is energy-efficient and all products used is organic.
For those of you who love the French Riviera, enjoy ’star-studded’ environments but are looking for a more cultural option at the same time…
Right now the Cybertecture James Law is designing this amazing project in Mumbai, India. Imagine swimming in this pool! We can’t wait until this project is finalized so we can pack our bathing suits (we will definitely need those) and go for a swim!
Parinee Ism is going to be a 30 floor residential unit with luxury apartments. James was inspired by natures ripple effect of water droplets.
Maison Moschino that we mentioned a few months ago was spotted in Vagabond Magazine!
Check out more information about Maison Moschino in Milan under the Category: Italy
Always dreamt of enjoy the relaxation of visiting a SPA resort but always found it a bit pricy? We have found a great place to slow down and treat oneself to an affordable price in Budapest, Hungary. The resort is called: Danubius Health Spa Resort Margitsziget.
There is something special about family businesses, especially when it comes to small hotels. Maybe because you for some reason immediately expect better service, a friendlier welcome or cosier rooms, the proof that everyone cares so much more. Even if we all know that this is not always true, it is true when it comes to Grand Hotel Mölle on the Swedish west coast, owned by the Dahlberg family.
I know Thailand can sometimes achieve somewhat of a ’been there, done that’ type of feeling, BUT that is until you see this amazing property!
Hallelujah! We have found the “Design Hotel-Mecca”! In Madrid you can find Hotel Silken Puerta America, where EACH floor has rooms with a unique look designed by a team of architects and designers. All rooms have one theme in common: Original Luxury.
My personal favorite is floor one, designed by Zaha Hadid from Iraq. She has focused on a black and white theme which brings a scientific feeling to the room with no edges. Minimalist and cool!
About ten minutes drive from Mykonos Town you find this authentic Greek and Romantic hotel called Mykonos Blu. It offers stunning views over the Psarou beach.
If you are looking for a great place for your honeymoon this is to recommend. Their suites each have a pool and a private bar.
Every morning starts with a glass of Laurent Perrier Champagne in their restaurant!
Being an Eskimo for a night would be awesome! There are a few selected ski destinations in the Swiss, Austrian and Andorra Alps where you can sleep in an igloo.
Naked + Barefoot, that is the English translation of Goli + Bosi. And I guess those two words capture the essence of this hostel very well!
There are not alot of things that are better than a weekend away, especially not if the chosen destination is the city of London!
The best way to enjoy this marvelous city and its amazing shopping is to hook yourself up with a comfortable yet fairly priced accomodation. However, since London is quite pricey, this is easier said than done…you might think!
100km north of Sydney in the middle of Bouddi National Park by Pretty Beach we have got recommended the most incredible property. Three private pavilions and one main house with the most stunning views of ocean and eucalyptus. Each house is yours to enjoy, which gives you a feeling of owning it like your own very house. Pretty Beach House offers you an experience you will never forget.
As spring is coming up, it is also time to update the spring closet, and what better city to do so than in New York!?
To be able to enjoy the shopping it is important to be able to find a cheap yet good hotel. That’s where we can recommend Chelsea Pines Inn, which is located near Greenwich Village and the Meat Packing district. Which means most is within walking distance.
The Meat Packing district also offers a great deal of splendid restaurants!
The Four Seasons Gresham Palace isn’t as old as the beautiful building in which it is located, however, when it was acquired in 1998 they decided to bring the neglected palace back to its former art nouveau glory. And they have succeeded alright.
Valentine is coming up, and what is a better way to celebrate the day of AMORE than with a romantic weekend in Venice, Italy. I would love to suggest this edgy hotel called Palazzina Grassi.
The hotel is situated away from the busiest streets, yet within walking distance to the main attractions, and is right by the Grand Canal.
The hotel is pricey, but if you are the type of couple who love to indulge in luxury and unique designs with cool edges, this is the place. It is a small hotel of only about 27 rooms, where some of them are apartment suites. There are two different buildings, and if you can afford it, go for the building where the suites are located. They offer the most amazing views toward the canal.
What makes this hotel so romantic, it the contrast between the modern design and the old 1500 century building.
I, for one, have always had a dream of a life on an island in the Caribbean. The idea of living in a wooden house, swim in perfectly blue water everyday, and enjoy the complete absence of stress is as tickling as ever to my mind.
Jakes Treasure Beach in Jamaica was just recently placed at 6th place in Conde Nast Travelers’ top 10 list of the best hotels in the Caribbean. And even if I haven’t stayed there myself…yet, I am in love with it. It doesn’t ooze with the sometimes pretentious and obvious luxury that many hotels do, but instead it has this laid-back and easy going atmosphere that I love so much. Buildt by two brothers after fleeing the US and its crumbling economy in the end of the 1920s, the hotel is still family owned. Buldings have been added over the years, all with their own style and characteristics. They all have different names, like Starfish, Coral and Seahorse and you can choose if you want to have a room, a cottage, or a villa.
