A new cultural area has emerged on ‘Thief Island’, the peninsula outside Oslo. What was once the island to which the criminals of Norway were sent to pay their debts to society (Tjuvholmen), is now a hyped urban area and cultural center. Amongst all of the restaurants, galleries and of course the beautiful new museum designed by Renzo Piano, only one thing has been missing- a hotel. In January 2013 “The Thief” will open its doors, a hotel built as a sustainable structure and almost completely surrounded by water.
The hotel has been filled with design and art work by Norwegian up and coming artists, so staying in a room will be like visiting a modern art museum!
The Thief is the initiative by Petter A. Stordalen, the Norwegian version of Conrad Hilton, a bold entrepreneur and environmentalist. But you will be able to read more about him later…
